Problem Solver had all the answers to the Tipperary Races Handicap Hurdle as he gunned down the always-prominent A Dublin Job
A Dublin Job sported new cheekpieces and attracted plenty of market support from as big as 28/1 this morning down to an SP of 4/1. He ran a fine race as he led and disputed throughout over three miles and put in a good jump at the last as he tried to seal the deal.
However, Problem Solver landed full of running and collared him in the closing stages to win by three parts of a length at 22/1 under Shane O'Callaghan.
The front pair were clear at the business end and the placings were completed by Killinure Lass (8/1) and Tullyhogue Fort (8/1).
"I bred him and all the family back along and his dam was Listed-placed in a bumper," trainer Austin Leahy said.
"I thought he might have need the run, he'll go for something similar now - I'll run him quickly if I can get him in."
This was Problem Solver's first career success.
The Stewards requested a report from Augustine Leahy, trainer, as to the apparent improvement in form of Problem Solver, placed first, as compared with its recent run at Killarney on the 14th July when last of fourteen finishers. Augustine Leahy reported that the race got away from his charge on good ground over two and a half miles at Killarney whereas today the animal was ridden handy in a steadier run race over three miles with his best work being done at the finish. Having considered the evidence the Stewards noted the content of the report.
