Ex-Cheveley Park Stud-owned Profound gained an overdue first win at Limerick today, scoring at the 19th time in the Knocklong Handicap Hurdle (div I) for trainer John Morrison and jockey Mike O'Connor.
The son of Intello failed in nine UK starts for trainers Roger Varian and Mark Usher and today won on his seventh hurdles outing, eventually beating heavily supported Coolnacritta (morning 11/4, returned 11/10 favourite) by four lengths.
It was a 13th win of the new season for O'Connor, based with Henry De Bromhead and a regular rider for Morrison, and the 7lbs claimer later stated “he came back from a break at Tramore when he ran a cracker finishing fourth. We came here on good ground and with a positive attitude.
“He deserved that win.”
