Planet Of Sound land Guinness Gold Cup
There was a shock result in the featured Punchestown Guiness Grade 1 Gold Cup with 14/1 English raider Planet Of Sound from the Philip Hobbs stable coming home in front.
Richard Johnson who partnered the Kayf Tara gelding sent his charge to the front at halfway and repelled the challenges of War Of Attrition Cooldine and Denman to record a famous victory.
Johnson who got a great a tune out of the eight year old which kept on strongly in the closing stages to win by three and half lengths from War Of Attrition.
Winning trainer Hobbs stated: "I'm chuffed to bits. He's always been a very nice horse but he's stayed on very well today.
"That was his first time over three miles but he definitely got the trip no problem.
"He just made one mistake down the far side but apart from that, he jumped great. He's always looked very good, but at Cheltenham (in the Ryanair) he choked so we put a tongue tie on him today.
"He's been the forgotten horse today and I couldn't believe what price he was."
The Mouse Morris trained War Of Attrition ended his career on a high note when running an unbelievable race to finish second in the hands of Davy Russell.
Michael O'Leary owner of War Of Attrition stated: "He ran an unbelievable race and Davy [Russell] gave him a terrific ride."
"We will keep him ticking over at home and we might do a bit of hunting with him over the Winter."
Mouse Morris said afterwards: "The horse has never let me down, he ran an absolute cracker and it's a sad day."
