Ger Lyons' Phoenix Cowboy overcame a luckless run in the valuable Petingo Handicap to land the extended mile and three race in Bellewstown.
The 11/4 chance tracked the leader Effernock Fizz and was ridden to get the better of her with a quarter of a mile to go.
He wasn't for stopping in the final furlong and Colin Keane guided him home by two lengths.
Effernock Fizz couldn't rally once headed but held on to second at 14/1.
Assistant trainer Shane Lyons said: "Drawn down the inside in a big field at Leopardstown on a turning track wasn't ideal, anyone could see it.
"He's a very game horse and the owner Mark Breen has been very, very patient. It has taken a bit of time for the horse to come to himself.
"He was an expensive yearling and is coming to hand now. He would actually appreciate a better galloping track and he'll get further.
"As long as the handicapper is kind to us We'll keep playing and having fun with him. He's game so there is plenty of those races to be won with him.
"This is his third win this year and this year he is only coming to himself, so next year he will only improve."
