Trainer Sandra Hughes registered a 1-2 in the Listed Irish Racing Writers Kingsfurze Novice Hurdle at Naas today, winning with Phil's Magic under Jonathan Burke, from stablemate Prince Of Scars
Carrying to the colours of the Lyreen Syndicate, the son of Fruits Of Love tracked the leaders for much of the race and in the end battled gamely from the last to see off the Gigginstown House Stud owned Prince Of Scars.
Afterwards Hughes stated "they are both lovely horses and Phil's Magic had the form. He had a break after November and he'll go to Fairyhouse now and we'll see if he gets to Punchestown.
"He's progressing all the time and we'll step him up to two and a half miles at Fairyhouse. He'll be a chaser in time.
"Prince Of Scars is a big baby, and chasing will be his game."
Regarding her Cheltenham runners, Hughes added "we have four for Cheltenham and they have all travelled over well. Thunder And Roses (National Hunt Chase), Apache Jack (RSA Chase), The Tullow Tank (JLT Chase) and Lieutenant Colonel (World Hurdle). Unfortunately the ones in handicaps won't get in."
