A string of 'duck eggs' beside the name of Jubatus didn't deter punters in the second division of the extended two mile five furlong handicap hurdle for horses rated 80-95 in Ballinrobe.

The six-year-old daughter of Yeats was backed from 10/1 to 6/1 and came home strongly under Kevin Sexton to collar Halcyon Dreams (16/1) in the closing stages.

The winning distance was three parts of a length. Bintheredonethat in the first-time cheekpieces, finished three lengths further back at 33/1.

Sexton said: "She showed promise early and won her bumper but went backward since. Even out there it took her time to get going. Her jumping probably kept her in it.

"I didn't think I was going anywhere in the first half of the race but she started getting into it then and, while it was hard enough work, she did it well in the end.

"She is half-sister to Peregrine Run and it's great for her to win because no matter what she does she is going to be a nice broodmare. She is going the right way now thank God."

Peregrine Run has won 17 races for Fahey including the Mayo National at this track in 2019.

The Stewards requested a report from Peter Fahey, trainer, as to the apparent improvement in form of Jubatus, placed first, as compared with its recent form. Paul Harrison, Authorised representative for Peter Fahey, trainer, reported that the longer trip of 2 miles 5 furlongs 122 yards and competing in a low grade handicap contributed to the improved performance. Having considered the evidence the Stewards noted the content of the report.
