Peregrine Run opened his account over fences at the second attempt with a convincing success under regular partner Roger Loughran in the Pro-Form Beginners Chase at Wexford.
The son of King’s Theatre has proved a grand servant to connections with five previous wins including a Grade 2 novice hurdle at Cheltenham last November.
The Peter Fahey-trained gelding filled the runner-up berth behind Townshend when switched to fences at Roscommon earlier this month, and went one better here without too much fuss.
The 11/8 favourite led two out, and was just pushed out by Loughran on the run-in to beat Roconga by two and a half lengths. Our Dougal was a further length and a half back in third.
Loughran said, "It was a good introduction at Roscommon. We just ran him to find his feet there and he came here bursting with confidence. He got the job done today.
"He will probably go for a novice, I think there is something for him at Galway. I'd love to step him up in trip, and I'd say he probably will be stepped up too. Peter knows him better than anyone and we'll leave that to him, I'll just steer him.
"Peter is on holidays in Portugal at the moment."
