Penny Jane jumped the last better than eventual second High School Days and that was helpful for Gordon Elliott's charge as she landed the Kingdom Mares Maiden Hurdle at Listowel.
The Davy Russell-ridden Penny Jane was attempting to chase down High School Days going to the final flight and she wasn't long about pouncing on her opportunity, after a good leap, going on for a length and a half win.
Odds-on favourite Law Girl proved to be a disappointment back in fourth place.
"She was very professional for a filly first-time out over hurdles and jumped great. We went a good respectable gallop and she needed to jump as well as she did," stated Russell.
"Credit to the man training her and she is from a big pedigree and is now a bumper and hurdle winner."
A.E. Lynch, rider of Hexapod trained by Henry de Bromhead, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount burst blood vessels(confirmed by Turf club vet).
P.W. O'Reilly, rider of Meadow Blaze trained by William Hayes, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount never travelled and was pulled up.
