Patrickswell does it again at Down Royal
Winner of the corresponding event last year, Patrickswell was on the mark again in the Fonacab 90 33 33 33 Handicap. As was the case twelve months ago Leigh Roche was in the plate for Marcus Callaghan and the grey made all, holding off Salaamie
Gaining his third win at the track and the eighth success of his life (Roche has been aboard for five of these), the grey son of Iron Mask was scoring on the slowest ground yet.
Callaghan explained: "We nearly weren't going to come because of the ground (yielding). We eventually decided to run as it was the first race and the ground would be fresh.
"Leigh gave him a great ride and he gets on well with him."
Callaghan trains Patrickswell at Dunleer, County Louth for his mother Winifred.
Meanwhile the favourite in this event Geraldines Lass was beaten when checked at the business end.
