We had a twelve-year-old winning a maiden hurdle when Howryafeelin scored at Thurles lately and it was the turn of another from the year 2000 crop to break their duck in a different discipline, Cadogan landing the Follow Navan On Facebook Beginners Chase under Eddie O'Connell.
Jim Dreaper 's lightly-raced veteran, a winner over the minor obstacles back in 2005 and 2006, made all, jumped well and he kept on well from before the last to fend off El Fontan by four and three parts of a length. Market-leader Like Your Style didn't look entirely straight-forward up the straight and he eventually kept going at the one-pace to fill the fourth spot.
Dreaper trains Cadogan for Jarlath Conway and the owner said: "He broke down in the County Hurdle and it took four years to get him back. The patience has paid off."
Meanwhile Eddie O'Connell remarked: "For a horse of his age he has a great attitude. Fair play to Mr Dreaper for getting him back." (AM & EM)
