Georgie Benson was seen to great effect when partnering her third winner under Rules as Pachmena ended a long losing run in the Glenroyal Hotel Ladies Trophy (QR) Handicap at the Curragh.
The six-year-old mare gained her only previous victory nearly three years ago on the all-weather at Dundalk but has been placed on numerous occasions since.
The Gavin Cromwell-trained 11/2 chance travelled well just in behind the leaders and was switched right towards the far rail over a furlong out.
She quickened up nicely under Benson inside the final furlong and had three and a quarter lengths to spare over Narlita at the line. Van Demon was a further four and a half lengths adrift in third.
Benson said, “Gavin just said to hold onto her as long as you can, so I tried to do that and I knew the three in front of me were the most fancied apart from her.
“She travelled into it lovely and she really enjoyed it. I got a bit short of room and pulled her to the inside, and as soon as she got a bit of daylight she took off with me.
“She stayed on well to the line and handled the ground brilliantly.
“That’s my third winner on the track and 12 all together with point-to-points.”
