The opening Irish Field European Breeders Fund Fillies Maiden on Derby weekend at The Curragh today featured some very well bred fillies with victory in the end going to the Aga Khan owned newcomer Sinaniya (11/2), a second juvenile winner of the season for trainer John Oxx.
Ridden by Johnny Murtagh the Amercian bred daughter of More Than Ready was soon in front and went clear over a furlong out. Eventual runner-up My Special J's rallied well inside the last furlong to get to within a head of the winner at the line.
The Aidan O'Brien trained Hanky Panky finished well for third spot and looks one to take out of the race.
Afterwards winning trainer Oxx stated “the going is testing and Sinaniya tired a bit at the end but she hung on.
“I didn't think she'd win on the ground as both sides of her pedigree suggest she wants it better. We won't be in any hurry with her and we'll then try to get a bit of black-type.”
