Father and son, trainer/jockey, combination of Philip and Luke Dempsey won the Meath Handicap Hurdle at Navan today, with the gambled Oscar Sam
The son of Oscar was well backed in the half hour prior to the off and having initially been 14/1 for much of the afternoon, opened at 11/1 on track before being backed into 7/1, and under Luke Dempsey, scored a length and a half success over Josephine Marcus
Afterwards trainer Philip Dempsey stated "he's tough out and had a nice run last year in Thurles but has had a few issues. He has his own way of jumping and when he ran at Wexford (last April) the ground was too quick and he wasn't able to jump quick enough.
"He is back sound and loves that ground and his half-brother Billy To Jack also won here."
