Orpen Causes a Surprise
If bookmakers thought Barna Bay's win on Tuesday was a good result they had more reason to smile following the Dawn Milk Handicap Hurdle when Orpen Guama a 33/1 chance beat off Eyeffess who was dispatched at the same price followed in by twelve and fourteen to one chances.
Pierce Gallagher rode the Orpen gelding who had been absent since this meeting two years ago. Trainer Denis Leahy was rightly proud of this achievement.
The constant rain wouldn't have done the seven-year-old any harm as one of his two previous wins was achieved on heavy ground.
Tote punters that invested were rewarded at odds of over 102/1.
