One-two for Oxx in finale
John Oxx saddled a one-two in the concluding maiden at Navan as Zanughan landed the odds and put himself in line for a Derby Trial.
Johnny Murtagh 's mount was sent off 2/5 favourite and swooped on the wide outside to hit the lead over a furlong from home.
Stable-mate Wakhan emerged to chase him home inside the final furlong but was never a real threat, finishing a length back in second.
The winner shaped with plenty of promise when third on his debut in a hot Curragh maiden two weeks.
The runner-up Notable Graduate was an impressive winner at Tipperary last Thursday.
"He won well enough from a bad old draw. He was drawn that wide it was in a different parish!" said Oxx of the winner.
"I'll probably put him in a good race now and see where I stand with him. We could look at the Derrinstown Derby Trial.
"The second horse ran well and a mile-and-a-half maiden will suit him next."
Oxx also reflected on the earlier run of beaten favourite Kirinda in the Salsabil Stakes.
"She pulled too hard and was a bit fresh. It's only her second run ever. She could perhaps go for the Blue Wind Stakes next and we'll see if she settles well enough."
