The huge field Lawlor's of Naas Feature Sponsor On January 6th Handicap Hurdle was won by the oldest horse in the line-up, ten-year-old All About Alfie (10/1) getting the job done for trainer Tom Foley and jockey Eamonn Corbett.
The Tom Donohue-owned All About Alfie is now a 6-time winner, and here he could afford to get the last flight wrong and still beat the staying-on Kilkeaskin Molly by two and three parts of a lengths.
Rachael Blackmore was bidding for a double aboard 9/2 favourite Crack On Corrie but she had to settle for third on Willie Austin's mare, three parts of a length back.
Philip Dempsey trains Kilkeaskin Molly and he also had the fourth home, Longtimesincejaspr (16s into 12s).
“Even though he's getting on in age he still fights away,” said Foley.
“He's handicapped nice but when he goes up in weight he's not able for it. We'll see if we can get a bit out of him when he's the way he is.
“If the ground got too bad it wouldn't be the best for him as he likes that type of ground there.
“He's a strange type of horse as there are tracks he likes and tracks he hates, maybe like myself!”
D.E. Mullins, rider of Filly Mullins trained by Ms Margaret Mullins, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount was pulled up having made a mistake at the last hurdle on the first circuit.
The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Filly Mullins trained by Ms Margaret Mullins was found to have blood at her nostrils as a result of Exercise Induced Pulmonary Haemorrhage. Furthermore the filly was also found to be lame post race.
