Old Theatre best in Jackpot Handicap
Again bookmakers came out on the right of race three at Ballinrobe, this time 12/1 shot Old Theatre Royal coming home a good winner under Mick Darcy. Vinnie made a brave bid from the front but he had to give way in the straight as Old Theatre Royal came through to see off Diamond Shower by eight lengths. The aforementioned Vinnie faded into third, another four lengths adrift.
Winning trainer Lorcan Donnelly, a Wexford man operating in Wicklow, said: "I fancied him quite a bit. Diamond Shower (the favourite) won at Cork and that day my lad fell when he was still going well. He was a lot better off at the weights today too."
Old Theatre Royal is owned by the Dubliner, Arnold Kirwan. Glad Lion the big morning market mover, was beaten starting down the back straight and eventually pulled up before two out.
