Old Soul caused a 22/1 upset to win Punchestown's Old House, Kill Handicap Hurdle today, making almost all the running to win for trainer Liz Doyle and jockey Sean O'Keeffe.
The son of Montmartre was pulled up on a previous run at today's venue in November but today bounced back and fought off many challengers, eventually beating Ballyglass Beauty by a length and a quarter.
Trainer Doyle later said “he was clinically abnormal here the last day — that’s why he was 22/1. He probably should have been about 7/1 and was entitled to win that if you scratched out his last run.”
She added “it was a disaster here the last day but Sean (O'Keeffe) pulled him up quickly. He’s not quick and we’ll probably head over fences now reasonably soon.”
