Old Peculier had been well backed on his previous couple of starts at Dundalk when running creditably in defeat and the four-year-old made the breakthrough when landing the second split of the ten-furlong handicap.
Once again the money arrived and the 7/4 favourite, fitted with blinkers for the first time, came from mid-division to get into contention early in the straight. He soon edged right to the stands' rail but was galvanised by Shane Foley to lead a furlong out before staying on well to account for Flier by a length and three quarters.
Mark Fahey, who trains the winner for the Haven'taclue Syndicate, said: "The blinkers helped him. He has loads of ability and he has been running well.
"I even thought he had a bit of an edge to try and win a maiden with him as well too.
"He is a bit of a monkey and everything fell right for him today. We are hoping he might go on and win another one.
"The next day when he turns out, he might not produce that again. He has his own mind and we hit him on the right day today."
