Clinical Approach justified his short odds, as he ran out a comfortable winner of the Book Your Fundraising Night At Dundalk Maiden.

In what looked a weak contest, the Jim Bolger trained newcomer was sent off the 2/5 favourite in the colours of Godolphin.

Having raced mainly in third under Kevin Manning, the four-year-old victor improved a place with over three furlongs to race.

He was pushed along to lead with under two furlongs to go, and he was ridden out from there to score by two and a quarter lengths. Costa improved from his first two efforts to finish second under Oisin Orr for Eddie Lynam at 10/1.

The winner is a full-brother to four time winner Sophisticated Heir.

Ger Flynn, travelling head lad for Jim Bolger, said afterwards: "It was worth the wait. He seemed to handle the surface really well. In fairness Billy (Lee on Justice Ears went off to a good pace, a proper pace, and Kevin (Manning) said he did it well. It's a nice way to start him. We'll just see where he fits in - a mile and a half, a mile and a quarter.

"He's had a few issues and has just been backward more than anything else. He always showed keeping as a four-year-old - you have to show something in our place, we don't carry hangers on! He always had ability."
