O'Dwyer gets Competitive with McCoy's help!
Whips are up! Competitive Edge (left) and Quartetto

Trainer Conor O'Dwyer gained an overdue win when his J.P. McManus owned Competitive Edge landed a gamble to win the Sandyford Handicap Chase at Leopardstown today, benefitting from a well timed ride from Tony McCoy.
McCoy waited until the extended run-in to mount his challenge and only forced Competitive Edge's (8/1 in the morning into 100/30f) head in front near the line for a head win over Quartetto with the winner's stablemate Uncle Tom Cobley back in third.
O'Dwyer was a relieved man after the result was called saying “that's my first winner since last May (Mac Tigue at Cork on May 25 2012). We've been knocking on the door and it's not as if they have been running that badly but I must admit I wasn't that confident passing the line and I was thinking 'here we go again'!
“I'm thrilled that he won – he is still a bit of a frame and should improve again next year.”
