O'Connor excels on Baie Des Iles

Derek O'Connor and Nina Carberry served up a great conclusion in the Connolly's Red Mills Amateur National For The Conyngham Cup Handicap Chase at Punchestown, and the former just came out on top aboard Baie Des Iles (9/2) for Ross O'Sullivan.
Carberry looked like she might have it in the bag when going on aboard Unic De Bersy from the second last, but O'Connor got Baie Des Iles up close home for a half length win.
"That was Derek at his best, and as good a ride as you'd see. He convinced the horse to win," was the understandable reaction post race of O'Sullivan.
"She came over from France with a big reputation but we have been scratching our heads a bit with her. People in France told me she'd be a different horse going over fences and racing over a trip.
"I stuck her in the Thyestes but she's only five. We'll have a look. We'll be aiming at those three miles plus races, and the National Trial back here is another option."
