Somerset Maugham (5/2f) got up right on the line to chin 33/1 newcomer With Herself in the mile maiden for three-year-olds plus in the Curragh.
With Herself put in a storming performance for Richard O'Brien and Gary Carroll but was just foiled.
She was switched out by Carroll at the two pole and made good headway to challenge on the run to the final furlong.
She swept past Dawn Trouper with 150 yards to race and went for home but Somerset Maugham absolutely flew home on the inside to win on the line by a nose.
A length and a quarter further back came Winner Takes Itall at 12/1.
Aidan O'Brien said: "I thought he was beaten, I thought he was second.
“Ryan was very happy with him. He only had a couple of runs last year so he'll step up. He'll maybe go for a handicap now and we'll see where we go.”
He gave O'Brien and Moore a quick-fire double as they also landed the opener with 6/4 favourite Peach Tree
