Romantic Stroll who made her forward move on the home bend of the mile fillies’ handicap, outgunned Surreal who finished nicely for second once she saw daylight.
Both horses were returned at 12/1 and the distance between them was three lengths. Susiescot was the market springer from 10/1 down to 6/1 joint favourite and the place dividend was secured when she came in third. Bottom-weight Phoebe Van Gelder (50/1) lost that place to her right on the line.
Winning handler Tommy Stack said: “I’m pleased for her. It got very soft and you don’t know how they are going to go, but obviously she goes on it. It’s nice to win a race here as I wasn’t born too far away.
“I remember riding in a Donkey Derby in Listowel years ago. My brother rode in it too. The fella that rode the winner became a very successful blacksmith in Belmont Park.”
Wayne Lordan was up on the winner and he remarked: “That’s my second winner of the week so hopefully I can get another few in the bag.”
