Northgate wins exciting finale
So good at Down Royal in September before finishing seventh in a listed event here later that month, Northgate came out best in a thrilling conclusion to the finale on the eight race programme, the Follow Dundalk On Facebook Race.
Gaining his third win at Dundalk, the six-year-old Mujadil gelding got a good ride from Emmet McNamara to beat Rock Critic and Takapour as Mid Mon Lady got no luck in running. All runners still held chances up until the latter stages of the extended mile and a quarter contest.
Joe Murphy owns and trains Northgate and his son Joe junior said: "That's a happy end to the evening.
"He is in again on Sunday (at Naas) with a 5Ib penalty. We'll see how he is – he might run.
"He'll probably come back here then for the Carlingford Stakes.
"He is potentially a good hurdler."
