In murky conditions at Wexford the Adare Manor Opportunity Maiden Hurdle went to local hope Dia Del Sol (10s into 8s). Galtymore (12s into 7s) made a slight mistake at the last and from there he couldn't peg back Paul Nolan's Dia Del Sol who prevailed by a length and a quarter in the hands of Evan Daly.

Favourite Hammerstein proved a big disappointment, beaten starting down the back and eventually pulling up. Gordon Elliott's charge was found to be clinically abnormal post race.

"I'm delighted for Philip (Byrne) his owner. He was a bit unlucky down in Cork, and to make it worse he was badly hampered by a horse of our own when he might have went close in a handicap," said Nolan's brother James.

"He didn't get home at Ballinrobe when we ran him a two and a quarter mile race, which was run like a two and a half mile race as they went a real strong gallop. We said we'd switch him back to a maiden and they mightn't go as quick, which I don't think they did.

"He got a lovely run of the race and avoided all the trouble. Evan gave him a lovely ride and if you were to paint a picture of what we were planning to do, he carried it out to perfection.

Nolan concluded: "He is a lovely chap and is in with us a couple of days a week. He is in with Joseph (O'Brien), who kindly let him come to us a few days a week.

"Himself and Sean O'Keeffe will be our two claimers for the winter. Evan is a real good mannerly lad, and he works hard to go with it. I'm delighted for him. He has lots of experience from pony racing, and I'd be fairly confident if he stays injury free that he is a chap we'll be hearing plenty about."

The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer examined Hammerstein (GB), trained by Gordon Elliott, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be have blood at the nose following exercised induced pulmonary haemorrhage.

C. Brassil, rider of Hammerstein (GB) trained by Gordon Elliott, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount burst a blood vessel.

E.M. Roche, rider of Shamad trained by Peter Fahey, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount ducked left and ran through the wing unseating him for no apparent reason.

B. Browne, rider of Ostaiocht trained by Brendan W.Duke, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount was reluctant at the first hurdle, jumped deliberate and unseated him thereafter.
