She was getting the allowances alright, but we still witnessed a very smart performance from Kala Minstrel on debut in the Jim Ryan Racecourse Services INH Flat Race at Tipperary.
Tentatively priced up by the layers early on, the Kalanisi mare was easy to back and she went off at a price of 14/1.
Lisa O'Neill rode the five-year-old for her boss, Gordon Elliott, and inside the last the only mare in the line-up got the better of favourite Fabulous Saga by two lengths.
Just over ten lengths separated the first five home — and three of these were previous winners. By any barometer then, this was a great start for the William Flood-bred Kala Minstrel.
