Newcomer La Collina takes Limerick opener
The opening race on this evening's card at Limerick, the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Median Auction Fillies Maiden for 2yo's only, went to the Kevin Prendergast trained newcomer La Collina
Ridden by Declan McDonogh the daughter of first season sire Strategic Prince, came from off the pace and quickened impressively to lead inside the final furlong, racing away to a length and three parts win over another newcomer Mahaazen (9/2) back in second.
Prendergast was recording just his second 2yo winner of the season having scored with Aaraas in the opener at Navan yesterday evening.
La Collina, which translates to The Hill in Italian, opened on track at 7/2 but found plenty of supporters going off the 9/4fav as the stalls opened.
Winning rider Declan McDonogh said afterwards: "She was slowly away and didn't have to lick to go with them early on. She jumped onto the bridle turning into the straight and she quicken well.
"She ran a little green inside the last half furlong but she did it well."
