Nearly Nama’d made all in the two and a half mile beginners’ chase and a good round of jumping helped him see off his seven rivals.
Mark Walsh was in the JP McManus colours for trainer Dessie Hughes. He had the opposition, led by Mackeys Forge toiling round the home bend and when he jumped the last on Nearly Nama’d he kept him up to his work to take the spoils by three and a half lengths.
Dessie Hughes said: “He was getting very free and was getting disheartened over hurdles. The fences helped him to settle. It was a good effort for his first chase. We’ll see what mark he gets and we’ll probably go for a handicap now.”
There was support at the track for the winner who shortened to 7/2 from 9/2. Mackeys Forge in second was 7/1 from 10s and each way punters got a healthy place dividend from Kostar (28/1) in third.
