The Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Fillies Maiden was a tight betting affair and the 5/2 joint favourites Current State and Laffina led the six horse field home, with 11/4 shot Diamond Rio filling the third spot at Naas.
Diamond Rio and Athassel bumped over a furlong out but there was absolutely no disputing Current State's superiority at the line as Wayne Lordan's mount saw off Laffina by two and three parts of a length.
Lordan was sporting the familiar Peter Piller silks here aboard the Tommy Stack trained High Chaparral filly and he said: "She's progressed off each run, and I thought the run the last day at Limerick was strong enough to win here.
"She's a bit keen but other than that she is a straight forward filly and she is very genuine."
The Stewards enquired into an incident in the straight involving Athassel (CAN), ridden by C.D. Hayes, placed fourth, Current State, ridden by W.M. Lordan, placed first and Diamond Rio, ridden by R.P. Cleary, placed third.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that the incident was accidental and took no further action.
C.D. Hayes, rider of Athassel (CAN) trained by Ms. Carolyn Costigan, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount was bumped in the straight.
R.P. Cleary, rider of Diamond Rio trained by Anthony Mullins, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount was bumped in the straight.
