Emmet Mullins registered his fourth winner as a trainer when his St Stephens Green under his cousin Danny Mullins, justified 2/9 favouritism to win the concluding Irish Examiner Maiden Hurdle at Killarney today.
St Stephens Green was Mullins’ first winner in June 2015 and today made his hurdles breakthrough at the fifth attempt, despite being untidy at the final two flights.
Trainer Mullins later said “his jumping, for a handicapper, was a bit untidy but Danny said he was back on the bridle quickly after both mistakes.
“This race fitted in nicely as it is three weeks after Galway and three weeks before Listowel. He’ll go to Listowel and has options with either a handicap or a novice hurdle.”
