Willie Mullins completed a St Stephen’s Day six-timer when his Miss Sapphire landed the concluding Lyons Of Limerick (Mares) Bumper at Limerick today, winning under the Champion Trainer’s son and jockey Patrick Mullins.
Mullins had earlier won three races at Leopardstown, including the featured Grade 1 novice chase with mighty Min and completed a Limerick treble with Miss Sapphire, a Blue Blood Racing Club owned mare who readily rewarded her many supporters, whom back her in to 4/11 favouritism.
Mullins senior was on duty at Leopardstown but jockey Patrick Mullins later commented “we’ve had a brilliant day and I’m delighted for the Blue Blood syndicate who have her leased off Mags Mullins, who owns her.
“Myself and James Fenton, the main man in Blue Blood, got her leased and she was very lazy but on that ground, that is an advantage. There’s more to come from her and we might look for a winners’ bumper with her next and she’ll jump a fence in time. She’s only four and can go hurdling next season.”
