Jessica Harrington sent out her first winner since Sizing John's John Durkan success on December 10th when Another Barney emerged victorious in the I.N.H. Stallion Owners EBF Maiden Hurdle at Naas.
The former Bernadette Murphy-trained point-to-point scorer had Robbie Power aboard for this two miler, in the increasingly familiar Robcour silks.
Well-backed odds-on favourite Grotesque didn't hurdle well enough, and whilst Border Control ran well, Another Barney was much too strong over the closing couple of hurdles.
At the line the Scorpion gelding had five and half lengths and three and three parts of a length in hand over Border Control and Grotesque.
"I've had more seconds in December than anything else. Maybe there wasn't that much wrong with the horses but they were just getting beaten," reflected Mrs Harrington afterwards.
"He showed what I thought he'd show today. Kate was there when he got bought in Cheltenham. I don't go to the sales any longer.
"He's going to be a chaser and I think he'll appreciate a bit better ground in the spring. We'll see where we go with him now."
