Jockey Gavin Ryan completed a double at Gowran today as he steered Hisnameis Mrdevitt to win the Golf Societies Welcome Apprentice Handicap for trainer Johnny Feane.
Owned by the Handbrakes Down Syndicate, the son of Epaulette was a 33/1 winner at Limerick last month and today, at odds of 11/2, defied a 6lbs rise when scoring a length win over Ya Ya Baby
Afterwards trainer Feane stated “the plan was to go forward but Gavin is a good little rider and used his initiative. They went quick, he dropped him in and made up some ground through the middle of the race and got the best of the ground on the outside.
“He’s done it well. Hopefully he’ll progress and the handicapper won’t be too hard on him. He’s entered in Killarney on Monday and he’ll jump a hurdle.”
Jockey Ryan was earlier on the mark with juvenile maiden winner Shale for his employer Donnacha O'Brien.
