English 1,000 Guineas winner Mother Earth made a winning seasonal return today, landing the Curragh's Group 3 Lodge Park Stud EBF Park Express Stakes for trainer Aidan O'Brien and jockey Ryan Moore.
The Zoffany-sired filly today reappeared five weeks earlier than when winning her Newmarket Classic last May 2 and was the easy-to-back 4/5 favourite, to beat five rivals.
Runner-up Insinuendo set the pace and while Mother Earth was made work for her win, she scored comfortably enough at the line, by three parts of a length.
Mother Earth holds a Tattersalls Gold Cup (over 1m2f) entry on May 22 but O'Brien later reported “we’re delighted with her. We came here with a view to going for the Lockinge (Newbury over a mile, May 14).
“They went steady early which was lovely for her first run and it’s beautiful ground.”
Paddy Power later cut Mother Earth to 8/1 (from 14s) for Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot on June 16.
