Mossey Joe treated his supporters to a sixth racecourse win when landing the Jack Tyner Memorial Hunters Chase at Cork today for trainer Declan McNamara and jockey Declan Skehan.
The ten year old chestnut gelding has had a checkered career but has found himself more at home in hunter chase company in recent times, having easily won the Tetratema Chase at Gowran recently.
In today's race, he again made most of the running but was strongly pressed by Festive Affair in the straight. However to Mossey Joe's credit, he battled gamely from two out to take Festive Affair off the bridle at the final fence. On the run-in, Mossey Joe found more and won by a length and a half with Zest For Life finishing well for a never nearer third.
Afterwards Cratloe, Co Clare based McNamara stated “he wasn't as impressive as at Gowran but I'd say the horse of J.P.'s (Festive Affair) is a good horse. He'll go to Punchestown for the Champion Hunters Chase next and while he may not have looked a Champion Hunter today, better ground may bring out the best in him.”
