Robbie Colgan is on a good run and after a double at Gowran yesterday, the 2007 Troytown hero (on Royal County Star) was on the mark again on Navan's big day, landing the Proudstown Handicap Hurdle on Vics Canvas
Owned by the Bodeen Bandits Partnership which includes Attheraces ace Gary O'Brien and trained by Dermot 'Red' McLoughlin Vics Canvas got the better of Nearly Nama'd from after two out, going on to triumph by five and a half lengths from Courage
"He's a grand little horse. Robbie said he couldn't believe how well he was travelling.
"Once he has less than eleven stone on his back he travels well in his races.
"He's probably going to get a fair whack from the handicapper. I'll look at something like that Pertemps qualifier at Leopardstown now," stated McLoughlin.
The Stewards received a request from P.Townend, rider, to carry two pounds overweight on Viaduct Joey trained by Terence O'Brien. Evidence was heard from the rider and trainer concerned who stated that they intended to declare two pounds overweight at declaration stage but due to a mix-up between trainer and agent, they failed to do so. Having considered the evidence, the Stewards allowed the request but reminded the trainer concerning his future responsibilities in declaring probable overweight. Furthermore P.Townend was found to be in breach of Rule 195 and Rule 198 and having considered his record, fined him €150.
