Stephen Mooney partnered his first winner as Geological defied top-weight in the Jake Cater Plays Live At Limerick Racecourse June 22nd Handicap.
The 20-year-old from Curragha in Co. Meath had Geological up with the pace throughout, and the six-year-old gelding asserted at the furlong pole in this extended six-furlong event.
The 9/2 chance kept on well to beat Boragh Steps by three quarters of a length, with Count Of Carabass coming home well just a head back in third.
Winning trainer Damian English said, “I was wondering if I did the right thing as he won over a mile here last year but he’s so well handicapped at the moment and Stephen gave him a great ride.
“He ran a blinder in Leopardstown the last day and just got a little bit tired. Stephen is with me since last summer. He’s a great little worker, and his riding has improved out of sight in the last few months.
“He might make plenty of use of his claim now this summer.”
