Mooney claims first win on Swiftmarc
Twenty four year old Helen Mooney partnered her first racecourse winner, when claiming the opening Bbq Evening At Tramore Races Ladies Maiden on the Dessie Hughes trained Swiftmarc
Mooney was never far off the pace on the son of In The Wings, placed in two Leopardstown maidens before finishing fifth at Galway, improving to lead under two furlongs out, scoring a five lengths win over Mr Clyde
Afterwards Hughes stated “Helen gave that a great ride and is a very capable girl.”
He added “Swiftmarc did that well and will now go over fences – probably at Kilbeggan in a fortnight. H likes most ground except real heavy ground.”
Mooney, a daughter of trainer Paddy Mooney and brother to jump jockey Martin Mooney, had previously partnered two point to point winners.
