Montebell returned from a mid-season break to land the Profound Beauty Autumn Fillies Handicap at the Curragh.
Shane Foley swooped at the furlong pole on the daughter of Dylan Thomas and she stuck on well in the closing stages of the mile-and-a-half contest. Placere flew home inside the final furlong but failed by half-a-length to peg back Ken Condon's charge.
The easy to back 9/2 winner (from 7/2) was make her first start in handicap company today.
She had chased home subsequent Group Three winner Hartani when last seen at Tipperary in May.
"She's very lazy in the morning and obviously saves her best for the track," said Condon.
"We gave her plenty of time and she was a bit keen and fresh early on today. I'd expect her to improve from that.
"We'll look for a stakes race next but I'm not sure where."
