Wee Monster lived up to his name when showing a tremendous attitude to take the Mourne Seafood Bar Dublin Belfast Dundrum Claiming Race at Down Royal.

Trained by Kevin Prendergast for his wife Lesley, the Haatef youngster made most of the running and held off a number of strong challenges in the final furlong.

Gary Halpin’s mount had a neck to spare over Torthai An Ghra at the line, with Cleveland Street the same distance further away in third. Boris Bike lost considerable ground at the start on his debut and in the circumstances ran a fine race to finish fourth. He was later claimed for €5,000 by Ger O'Leary.

Halpin said, “He’s had plenty of runs but is gutsy and sticks to his guns well. He didn’t handle the ground all that well and was feeling it a bit. But the one thing he has is guts.”
