Running in new colours today Mick The Jiver gained a big win when landing the Grade B Irish Stallion Farms E.B.F. Novice Handicap Chase Final at Navan.
Hopes were still high for a few of these from the third last, but the winning grey is all about stamina which he put to good use in this three miler from before the final fence.
David Splaine 's mount forged on up the run-in to defeat Kilcarry Bridge by six and a half lengths.
Gordon Elliott, going for his fifth winner in as many races at the venue, had to settle for third here with Jetstream Jack
Winning trainer Eoghan O'Grady said: "He loves that ground and David gave him a super ride. That could be it for this year, and if the ground is good in a months time he certainly won't be running. He'd a lovely racing weight.
"There is a new bunch of lads, the Jiver Syndicate, from Cahirsiveen, who have bought into him after his last run. It's a great start for them."
The Stewards received a report from P.L. Malone , Turf Club Clerk of the Scales, regarding the fact that D.E. Splaine , rider of Mick The Jiver (GB) , weighed in at 1.3 lbs overweight. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned, who stated that he was doing a light weight and had a small drink after weighing out and furthermore his clothing was holding some kickback after the race. Having considered the evidence, the Stewards were satisfied that D.E. Splaine was in breach of Rule 231 and they therefore cautioned him.
