The Dermot McLoughlin trained Avellino was the fifth winning favourite at Fairyhouse today, landing the concluding Weatherbys Ireland GSB Mares (Pro/Am) Bumper on a reasonably bad day for bookmakers.
Ridden by Noel McParlan, the winning daughter of Muhtathir moved to the front two furlongs out and in the end proved too strong for Freeway Space
Following the win, McLoughlin stated “Noel (McParlan) said she wasn't enjoying the ground; it was very holding.
"She's a good, strong mare but that will take a good bit out of her. If she comes out of the race alright we could look at the Listed mares bumper in Sandown."
Nine to ten favourite Avellino, which opened at 2/1 yesterday and was a 5/4 chance this morning, was following up earlier wins by market leaders Crafty Power Sunsetstorise Limini and Coolaghaknock Glebe while 5/1 shot Yes Sir Brian was another well backed winner.
