McGuigan (9/2) was in front a long way out in Division Two of the extended mile and a quarter handicap but in the end held on by a short head from Feisty Katerina
The winner was pressed over a furlong out by the runner-up who disputed as they raced towards the line.
Jim Bolger 's McGuigan knuckled down to his task and just prevailed from Feisty Katerina (8/1). Oisin Orr put up 1lb overweight on the runner-up.
The front two pulled two and a quarter lengths clear of Ragtime Red (9/2).
Ger Flynn, travelling head lad, said: “He’d dropped down the ratings and was entitled to win. Willie (Byrne) gave him a good positive ride and went to the front as there didn’t seem to be much pace in the race.
“He’s an honest and genuine horse and a real favourite in the yard. It’s great to end up the year with a winner in Dundalk.”
This was a fourth winner for Byrne.
