Jack The Wire had to miss the Mayo News Maiden Hurdle as he was lame. That opened up race two at Ballinrobe significantly, and Pat Kelly was a man to benefit greatly as he saddled the first two home, Kansas Kid and The Lastonetogo

Kelly had extra reason to smile in the aftermath as his son Tony was aboard Kansas Kid (2/1 favourite) who accounted for The Lastonetogo (9s into 11/2 with Martin Burke up) by all of twelve lengths.

J W Howley owns both Kansas Kid and The Lastonetogo.

"He'll probably head to the sales in England. Tony only came home for two days as they are changing yards," said Kelly.

Kelly junior works cross-channel for Rebecca Menzies.

R.C. Colgan, rider of Nidge trained by John J. Maguire, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount hung badly.

A.P. Heskin, rider of Haunted Light trained by John Patrick Ryan, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount ran out.

A.E. Lynch, rider of Lucky Lily trained by Thomas Cooper, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount was lame post race.
