Maya springs shock in style
Maya Quest destroyed his rivals to spring a 25/1 shock in the bumper at Roscommon.
It was a fine training performance by Michael Fitzsimmon with his charge returning from a 500-day absence.
He showed no signs of ring rust as he kicked for home over two furlongs out under Jamie Codd.
The gelding kept up a relentless gallop to beat a decent looking field, easing down close home for a five-and-a-half length verdict over Cairdin
It was a first success for Mayo owner Richard Barrett, who also bred the horse.
"To be honest I was expecting him to win as he won a schooling bumper at Navan recently," revealed Fitzsimmons.
"He's had a little bit of leg trouble. We'll keep him on the go now and send him over hurdles."
