The heavily invested upon Massinga (8/11) delivered Dermot Weld's sixth winner of the week when taking the Guinness European Breeders Fund Maiden at Galway.
The chestnut daughter of Selkirk, who we hadn't seen in action since a pleasing debut second placing at Roscommon on June 9th, travelled at her ease as she stepped up to a mile and a half here.
Smullen let Massinga lead two furlongs and it was soon looking very bleak for her rivals.
To his credit Awesome Star tried to chase her down but he still had three lengths to find at the line.
"She handled the ground well and won like the good filly I think she is.
"We'll find a stakes race for her next.
"I was confident she'd handle the ground but I was a bit concerned about her staying the distance being by Selkirk," divulged Weld. (AM & EM)
