Whatsforuwontgobyu has long since held a good reputation, and it all came together stylishly for the five-year-old in the opening Sligo GAA Race Day 18th August Maiden Hurdle.
Third in the Goffs Land Rover Bumper at Punchestown in April 2014, on debut, Whatsforuwontgobyu has had a fruitless spell in seven outings since, but the initial promise was still there at times.
Here, the J P McManus-owned and Tony Martin-trained Well Chosen gelding, went off a strong 11/10 favourite, and he headed his front-running market-rival, Ring Chief from the last, going away impressively under Mark Walsh, to eclipse that opponent by six and a half lengths.
"He'd a lovely run the last day and built on it. He's done it well. The bit of sun on his back helped," said Martin.
"He jumped well and Mark got him nice and relaxed. We'll keep going for another while and see how we get on." (AM & EM)
