The Irish Stallion Farms EBF 4-y-o Fillies Flat Race was won by Young Lucy (7/1) who was on the front end throughout under Derek O’Connor.
The daughter of Lauro was kept wide on the track by O'Connor who bagged the stands’ rail in the straight. One by one her rivals came under pressure as Young Lucy continued to travel strongly and she found plenty when asked for more to beat the 5/2 favourite Familiar Dreams by four and three quarter lengths.
The winner had finished fifth at Ballinrobe last month and was getting off the mark at the fifth time of asking.
Winning trainer Tony Martin said: "that's why you employ the likes of those top men (O'Connor) and there was no point in asking me how to ride her so I left the instructions to him.
"She is well able to leap and has already run over hurdles but has the option of the Flat route as well. I'd imagine she could be dual-purpose and will go 1m4f on the Flat.
"She is a lovely mare for Ray (Grehan, owner) so fingers crossed."
