Marnane has Angel floating at 1st time of asking
Put in with one firm as the 9/4 joint favourite this morning, Angel's Pursuit didn't have many friends amongst punters as he returned a 5/1 shot but that didn't stop him from convincingly landing the Group Discounts At Dundalk Stadium Race under Shane Foley.
On his first start for David Marnane and on his comeback from a 125 day break, the former Richard Hannon-trained Listed winner was never far off the pace despite having to start from the wide draw of thirteen. He headed outsider Duke Of Rutherford a furlong and a half out and kept on well to score from one by a length and a quarter.
Well-backed favourite Duff (9/4 this morning into 6/4), bidding to give Eddie Lynam a double, couldn't quicken when required and he had to settle for fourth place.
Foley commented afterwards: "He's a lovely horse. He's got lots of ability but he was a bit idle when he got to the front.
"I'm not sure what the plan is but I wouldn't be surprised if he went to Dubai."
Angel's Pursuit is a half-brother to the top-class Dark Angel. He is of course now one of the top first crop sires this term. (AM & EM)
